Where it all began
Smyth’s EUROSPAR, Ballymoney is a successful family ran business by owner David Smyth, Son Sam and daughter Debbie. The award winning, “Grocer of the Year” store located in Ballymoney has been subject to many changes over the years, increasing in size from 700sqft to over 7000sqft with the total ground size of 20,000sqft. The Smyth family have introduced many additions to the store, including an increase in staff from 5 people to 76 in 2016, a post office, butchery and their car park which was formally an army camp base. The EUROSPAR store introduced its first scanning system to the store in the 90’s, and have incorporated several since, however David explains the “massive improvements” from getting the EDGEPoS system.

EDGEPoS & Loyalty
Our loyalty scheme enables customers to gather points per transaction, with one point meaning one entry to our weekly draw. A prize draw of £60, £40 and £20 has had so much success the Smyth family have had to introduce a separate loyalty scheme for their staff – everyone wants in on the action. The loyalty scheme works great with EDGEPoS as the Smyth’s are able to use both systems to promote our items. We pick out a variety of items, and use two a week to sustain our customers interest. We believe the loyalty system is great as it encourages our customers further, we have many offerings in store to cater for everyone.
EDGEPoS & Scanning
The scanning system is fantastic, tells David. Thinking back to the times when he would have to manually input everything into our system compared to now is incredible. Sam explains how he enjoys the ease of the EDGEPoS system, the breakdown in each report is great, there is so many, it’s a good thing there is a favourites section! “I think the fact profit and margins are worked out automatically is great it helps to speed up the process. Currently we have eight tills, each of them have the Maglennon Scanner scale, which is brilliant. “Not only are they great for saving space in the store, but they are a great tool for customer service” explains David.
The EDGEPoS system along with the scanner scales allows transactions to be much speedier. This keeps employees engaged with our customers, it is brilliant for customer service in our store as at no point will our employees leave our customer. EDGEPoS and the Scanner scales life customer service to the next level”. Additionally, we can use EDGEPoS to track our employee’s performances to ensure all our staff are positioned in their strengths in store – heightening the customer service we provide.
