Overview

After opening over 10 years ago in the city of Armagh, Northern Ireland, Stephen and Donna Mullan are celebrating again in 2018.  Located on the Monaghan Road, Mullans SPAR boasts a 2,975sq ft outlet, with plans to extend their car park after buying the land beside them.

EDGEPoS Within the business

Mullans SPAR is one of two of Donna and Stephen’s sites in County Armagh.  Using EDGEPoS Head Office Software to control the two sites more easily, Donna is a huge fan of the EDGEPoS Software, which was first installed into her Monaghan Road site in 2014.

Donna says “EDGEPoS is extremely advanced compared to our old POS Software.  It is a simple system for front end users, with minimal training required.  The Paypoint and EFT integration has cut out any opportunities for fraudulent activity and the Software as a whole eliminates any gaps and human errors that may have happened before.”

When asked about some of the favourite features on EDGEPoS Donna answered “The sophisticated authority levels allow us full control and security within our business.  And with being based in a North / South border City, the multi currency facility is invaluable to us.  Suggested ordering is another benefit which we could not live without.”

The Mullans pride themselves on the communication that they keep open with their loyal customers, and are constantly refining their product offering based on conversations with their shoppers.  Donna adds “Alongside customer feedback, the range of reports and the clarity they show on article sales and department sales are crucial for us to analyse sales and change trends within our stores.  Reports are 100% transparent and keep running my business simple.”

Lastly, Donna adds “The ease of use of the EDGEPoS tills makes the shopping experience speedier for customers, and ensure there are no mistakes from our staff.”

Award winning success in 2017 and 2018

Mullans SPAR won the cream of the crop in 2017 at the Convenience Retail Awards.  After being announced as winners of Convenience Retailer of the Year and Best Independent Convenience Store, Donna commented “We were amazed to be announced as Convenience Retailer of the Year.  It means everything to us.  We’ve worked so hard for this and would like to dedicate it to our staff who have been so devoted to us.”

Donna also commented ” I feel that the overall customer service from our staff was a huge factor in winning this award. The ambience of the shop is pleasant and has a community feel.  EDGEPoS allows our customer service level to be of the highest quality due to the speed of transactions.”

“We have a rule of managing our staff by exception, they are not stood over.  EDGEPoS allows us to have full visibility of our staff’s actions through the audit trail.”

And 2018 has proven to be another Award Winning Year for the Mullan family.  After winning Best Customer Service and Best Mealtimes Mission Award at Convenience Retail Awards 2018; Donna and Stephen have also been shortlisted for Chilled Retailer of the Year at the upcoming Retail Industry Awards 2018.  Truly a success story by one of the most dedicated retail couples in the country!

 

In conclusion

With over a decade of successful trading on Monaghan Road, and with a recently opened site in Markethill, Donna commented “We’re currently in plans to revamp our Markethill store.  Henderson Group have been a huge support in this project and we will be introducing a Hot Food area onsite.  The EDGEPoS Receipt Resolution that we use in Monaghan Road will allow us full visibility on sales and profits in this new department.  The integrated fuel is also essential to this site for full security on our busy forecourt.”

“We plan to look at a full EDGEPoS Hardware Upgrade in 2019 in our bigger site, and are looking forward to finding out more about the EDGEPoS Self-Checkout innovation prior to this.”
