OVERVIEW

Located at the mouth of the coastal route in Larne, VIVO Glenarm Road, was taken over by young entrepreneur Chris Campbell in 2019.  Chris has introduced many technology additions to the store, including Self-Checkout, Electronic Shelf Edge Labels and Appetite, the home delivery App from Bludot Technologies integrated with EDGEPoS.

APPETITE INSTORE

Chris introduced Appetite instore on 1 September 2020, after the COVID-19 outbreak saw many members of the community unable to get out for grocery shopping and basic necessities. He commented, “We had lots of customers telephoning us and asking us if we could delivery groceries to their home.  We wanted to be able to provide this service to the community, but found that taking orders over the telephone was a lengthy process, as we had to go through the different options available to them in one particular product.  This was reducing the hours that staff could help customers instore and reduced the level of customer service we were able to provide.”

“I quickly made the decision to install Appetite instore.  We created A5 leaflets advertising Appetite and put them in shoppers baskets, and distributed them to the local community via a door to door drop.  I also branded our delivery van and used social media to promote this new service to our shoppers and wider community.”

DID THEY MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION?

“In a nutshell, yes.  Within the first month of launching Appetite, we had seen an increase of £600 per week of sales coming through Appetite, and 80% of these are new shoppers who had never shopped with us before.  This has grown every week since.  With an average basket spend of £35.00, the App allows shoppers to choose their items, choose a delivery slot that same day, and have their groceries delivered contact free and cashless, as the payments are all taken through the App at the time of order.  It has been a real success for us so far.”

FUTURE PLANS

This is only the beginning for Chris and the team onsite.  Chris told us, “We plan to use Appetite to allow shoppers to order Christmas Hampers in the run up to Christmas 2020, and they can choose to have these delivered to a friend or relative as a Christmas gift.”

“Further to that, we plan on adding our Hoot Food and Deli range onto the App.  We are extremely busy with Sunday dinners, and having the ability to pre order these and either collect in store; or deliver these to the vulnerable will be a huge benefit to the store and the community.  We plan to offer evening meals – the shopper will be able to pre-order their evening meal and collect in store on their way home from work; or family members can arrange for an evening meal to be delivered to a shielding parent, or just as a nice gesture to help out in these difficult times.”

“I would recommend Appetite to anyone, it allows you to offer Home Delivery and Click n Collect, and will also allow me to grow my Deli business in the coming months.”

VIVO – A DESTINATION STORE FOR TECHNOLOGY

With the addition of Self-Checkout instore, and the latest install of Electronic Shelf Edge Labels, VIVO Glenarm Road, Larne really is a destination store for the latest technology from Henderson Technology.  Chris told us, “Since we installed EDGEPoS ESELs I have saved at least 12 man hours over our promotion changeovers and refunds and complaints about wrong prices have been eradicated.  We haven’t looked back since we had them installed.”
