The UK fuel retailing market has been evolving over the last 30 years with the sector moving from being purely fuel retailers, to true convenience retailers offering fuel, a full range of convenience goods, coffee, hot food and car valeting. Upgrading sites is a long-term investment with operators normally looking to incorporate a larger shop and more profit-making facilities e.g. hot food. It is the increased profitability from non-fuel income rather than any increase in fuel volumes that pays for infrastructure upgrades.
The UK’s food-to-go sector is in rude health and will be worth £23.5bn by 2022, up from £17.4bn in 2017, according to IGD, as shoppers’ preference for eating on the move shows no signs of slowing down. With a £2.7 billion share in 2017 within Convenience, Forecourt and Retailers, IGD’s latest forecasts suggest particularly strong growth among food-to-go retailers which are set to overtake quick service restaurants to become the biggest part of the market in the next five years.
Reacting to this growing trend, Henderson Technology have launched an EDGEPoS Café Module that bolts onto their EDGEPoS Retail Software Solution. EDGEPoS Café means that you can now benefit from a solution that has been adapted for Café and Takeaway environments. The system allows for sit in and take away service with separation for kitchen printing.
This innovative new module is ideal for retail stores that have a Hot Food and Deli Sit In / Take Away provision onsite. Currently being used in two busy EUROSPAR Sites in Northern Ireland, the Café Module is now available to all EDGEPoS Stores across Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom.
EDGEPoS Café allows the Retailer to set up Café Tax, which is applied to an article if the customer is sitting in, rather than taking the article away from the store.
The Till will prompt the operator at the start of the sale if this is a sit in or take away sale, then charge the appropriate price. This can be the same retail price, with VAT applied as appropriate for sit in sales, or at a different retail price for sitting in.
Furthermore, the EDGEPoS Café System gives your customer an order number on the receipt. The system also allows for remote kitchen printing if items are being produced away from the counter.
Employees can add additional lines of information for each order; salt / vinegar on chips, sit in / takeaway, facilitating more accurate transaction detail and reporting.
